Details about the feature
WABetaInfo recently reported that WhatsApp would add the Screen Lock feature for the Desktop version soon. The feature is being tested currently as part of the beta WhatsApp for Desktop. The new feature would require the user to enter the password every time WhatsApp is being accessed on the PC. This would ensure chat privacy if somebody else uses the same computer. Password sharing
The password would not be shared with WhatsApp but would be stored locally. If WhatsApp for Desktop is used on Mac, then fingerprint scanning to unlock the screen would be available as well. Also read: WhatsApp Set to Roll out Self-Chat and More New Features
Recovery of forgotten password
If somebody forgets the password, it can be retrieved by logging out of WhatsApp and then logging in back again on the computer. This could be done by scanning the QR code using the smartphone. The Screen Lock feature is in the testing phase for now as already mentioned and there is no information on when it would be available for everybody. Stay tuned as we would let you know if and when the feature releases. The latest features of the app that were tested previously are its ability to create polls and display profile photos in groups.
