The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games have released two apps: the 2012 Results App, and the 2012 Join In App. As the 2012 Results App will provide information like that of the latest scores, schedules and results; the 2012 Join In App is designed to inform people about events, celebrations and activities during the Games. In addition, another group of apps is designed keeping in mind the requirements of stay-at-home fans. This app will allow users to not only keep a track of the games but will also allow them to express their thoughts on the games. This has been reported by Scott Ellison, vice president of mobile and consumer platforms for technology research firm IDC. The only channel that is allowed to cover the complete (3,500 hours) of Olympics coverage is NBCUniversal. Nevertheless, it has joined hands with Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google+, Tumblr, GetGlue and Shazam wherein it will allow these social-media platforms to show coverage on its sites. “More content than ever before is available for mobile devices, but it’s not always easy to find that content with your mobile device,” says David Jones, executive vice president of marketing for Shazam. “We’ve solved that problem by combining NBC must-have content with Shazam’s technology and massive user base,” he said. In addition to these two official apps, there are other free apps such as Panasonic’s Facebook Flag Tags, Samsung Hope Relay, SoFit Mobile, and Tweethletes that can be downloaded to gain info about the Olympics Games 2012.
